This Weeks Training

The weather this week played havoc with my raining plans. With two weeks to go to the Roy Brown memorial half marathon I really wanted to run the 15km night race last Wednesday in Benoni just to see how I would cope with a slightly longer distance. I was really nervous the first half of the week leading into it, but Wednesday morning arrived and the weather was shocking. I decided not to risk getting sick by running in the cold and wet conditions. That left me with a huge dilemma as Read more…

There are two and a half weeks to go to my first half marathon since 1993. I can’t believe how quickly time is passing. It seems like just yesterday that I was looking at the race calendar and thinking to myself that I should be ok because there was about ten weeks to go. I’m running my first 15km since I started running again tomorrow. I’m also starting to get a bit nervous.

Although my training has been going reasonably well I am worried that I may be slightly underdone coming into it. I have uploaded my training for this week onto my Garmin Connect Dashboard. I’m still not going to break any land speed records but I am getting quicker. I took 2 minutes off my best 5km time yesterday and at the same time ran 5km’s without walking. I’m definitely getting fitter and I’m loving the process.

The Training Continues

Garmin Forerunner 310XT
Garmin Forerunner 310XT

I got the Garmin Forerunner 310XT just on a week ago. I’ve only run with it about 5 times but there is only one word to describe it. Awesome! I’m about as far from being an elite athlete as anyone can be and I’m sure those athletes could use the info that the 310XT spits out a lot better than I can. But if you’re a plodder like I am, you will love the 310XT. I’ve always been a believer that if you measure something it will improve. I love being able to see my pace per kilometre on the road and when I get home I really love being able to analyse my run on either Read more…

Participants at the 2009 Hospice Spinnathon

The Hospice Spinathon 2009 was held on Saturday 7 December 2009 at the Nelson Mandela Square in Sandton. I try and help Hospice whenever I can, I think they are a great organisation and they do such great things in our community. Not only do they help people who are really ill they also help their family members and those left behind deal with the grief of losing a loved one. It is an organisation that is really close to my heart and that is why I help them whenever I can. I’m not sure how many Hospice Spinathons I’ve been involved in but I know it’s been a few. The turn out this year was once again pretty good on top of mc’ing at the event, my colleague from Read more…

Brad Brown on the road

Brad Brown on the road

Another week down, October done and dusted and we’re in the home straight of 2009. This year has flown by. There are still a couple of important goals to acheive this year if Comrades 2010 is going to happen. First things first, I got my entry in today for the race. Phase 2 of entries for the 2010 race has begun. The 15000 entries of previous runners has been reached and now entries are open for 5000 novices. I watched the 2 big city marathons, Soweto and New York, on telly today. It was inspiring to see the masses of people taking part in both. The elite athletes are phenomenal but its the average guy or girl that have overcome some serious obsticals to get to the start line that fires me up.

My training this week and month went well. I’m keeping up with the novice 12 hour finnish program on the runnersworld website. I do have a bit of a niggly left ankle. I hurt it on a run on Tuesday and have been very worried about it since. I ran on Friday and Read more…
